Small, Easy and Necessary Steps in regards to Conservation and Biodiversity

There are many ways that ordinary people can change small habits to become more sustainable and can be more proactive in regards to producing a healtheir and more biodiverse ecosystem. During the Fall semester of 2015 I chose to partake in an activity to change some of my habits to become more evironmentally friendly and promote conservation efforts in regards to biodiversity. See the bottom of this page for more examples as to how you can make a difference!

SMALL LIFE CHANGES CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!

ONLY CONSUMING EGGS FROM FREE RANGE CHICKENS

Photographs by: Brooke E. Ryan | 2015 | Cleveland, Ohio

If you have the ability or desire to have chickens on your proporty, this is a great way to strengthen the biodiversity within your yard and create a more sustainable landscape. Consuming free range chicken eggs is much healther than store bought eggs. You are what you eat!

CONSOLIDATING CLOTHING AND DONATING/RECYCLING UNUSED CLOTHING

Minimizing the amount of clothing you possess is always a good thing. Never throw away clothing, always donated clothing. You can go to planetaid.org and find a location near you that is available for free donation drop off! In the summer months using a clothing line to dry clothes greatly cuts down on energy costs.

ALWAYS RECYCLING PLASTIC BOTTLES

If you choose to purchase and consume bottles water you should be sure to recycle these empty plastic bottles. Most businesses have recycling and many communities have free recycling centers.

OTHER EXAMPLES OF HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED AND START TAKING ACTION!

  • Use reusable bags when you go grocergy shopping

  • Reducing paper use, going paperless in regards to your bills saves times and paper.

  • When the weather is nice ride your bike instead of driving your car.

  • Create habitat for bird species by placing bird feeders and bird houses around your property.

  • Reuse to-go containers.

  • Plant native species of plants in your yard.

  • Buy as much organic food as possible in replacement of non organic options.
